'Bras For A Cause - GRAPEVINE

A number of the manliest firefighters around donned something a little more feminine Monday night. They did it in an effort to help fight breast cancer.
You've heard of 'Men in Black'. At the Glass Cactus in Dallas it was more a case of 'Men in Bras'. Grapevine firefighters bravely modeled signature, one-of-a-kind brassieres that were up for auction.

This is the first of what is hoped to become an annual event called "Bras for a Cause". The event was sponsored by the Women's Council of Realtors and the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Tarrant County.

"Everybody makes jokes about it as far as guys wearing bras," said Grapevine Firefighter Adam Pendergrass. "The fire service is known for being very PR oriented and public service [oriented] and we love helping out any way we can."

The brave firefighters said they all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. "My wife's doing the 60 mile 3-day walk and my mother did it last year and I haven't had the time to do it with them. I thought this would be the next best thing," Grapevine Firefighter Brian Martin said.

The 'Bras for a Cause' event was the brainchild of Emily Weathers. Weathers is the wife of a firefighter and the daughter of a breast cancer survivor.

"We came up with an auction idea and we have sponsors who've decorated bras," Weathers explained. "We have the most amazing firefighters that are going to model."

All of the money raised will benefit the Tarrant County Chapter of the Susan G. Komen foundation and will help fund free mammograms and other types of treatment for women battling breast cancer.
